Local Fitness Professional Offers Alternative to Steriods
By:
Hard work, supportive eating, use of the right training strategies and techniques and a true “Champion’s Mindset” can diffuse the temptation to use anabolic steroids and other performance enhancement substances.
The Mitchell Report on performance enhancing drugs in Major League Baseball demonstrates once again that steroids and other performance enhancement substances are unethical, illegal, and have no place in sports and fitness.
Most coaches, parents, and athletes support the premise that all the benefits of athletics depend on the concept of fair play. According to Tim Drown, founder and owner of To Be A Champion, LLC “Using steroids and other substances to enhance performance or to recover from injury violates the principles, values, and the life enhancing benefits of sports. Worse, these substances risk the health and well-being of athletes at every level of competition.” According to Drown, whatever “short-term performance enhancement benefits are far outweighed by increased risk for conditions such as stroke, heart attack, cancer, and sterility.”
Every decision-maker in competitive athletics must be convinced that there are no shortcuts to becoming a better athlete. Drown says, “It is important that athletes, parents, coaches and administrators work only with nationally-certified strength and conditioning coaches (CSCS) and athletic trainers (ATC). These highly competent professionals have the education, qualifications, and background to train athletes in a manner that enables workouts and training sessions to be effective in developing strength, power, speed, quickness and agility to be successful in sport without the dangerous and harmful effects of performance enhancing substances. Ask to see their credential, and research the certifying organizations.”
Working with the functional movement experts at To Be A Champion, LLC, athletes of all ages and levels of accomplishment can develop a system of success. And nothing is more is effective at diffusing the temptation to use anabolic drugs and other performance enhancement substances than a multi-faceted training program designed and implemented by To Be A Champion’s certified, and highly-qualified coaches. Drown says, “Use of the right functional movement training strategies, the best supportive eating techniques, and a true champion’s mindset is simply the best way to improve performance while reducing the risk of injury.”
